MOLLIE STONE is a Chicago native. Stone holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College, a Master of Music degree in conducting from Westminster Choir College, a Doctorate in choral conducting from Northwestern University, and has studied at the University of Cape Town.
In 2001, Stone received a grant from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation to produce a teaching DVD (Vela Vela) that helps choral directors learn and teach black South African choral music more authentically in the oral tradition. In 2006, Stone received another grant from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation to research how South Africans were adapting their choral music to address the struggle against HIV/AIDS. This later became the topic of her doctoral dissertation, and Stone continues to give lectures and workshops to educate people on choral music's role in addressing global health challenges.
